Water quality - Blackbeard Sailing Club members, in cooperation with the Albermarle-Pamlico Citizen Water Quality Monitoring Program have conducted tests from our docks at least monthly since 1989. Dissolved Oxygen (DO) readings have consistently averaged year to year around 7.8 Mg/L; pH readings averaged 7.6 from 1989 through 1996; since 1997 the average reading has been 6.9 indicating our home waters are becoming more acidic. Turbidity reading from 1989 through 1994 averaged 1.0 meters; since 1995 the average has been .74 meters indicating our waters have become less clear. Natural tannic acid in the water keeps it the color of tea and will leave a "mustache" on your boat. Most of your anchoring will be in deep silt and mud.

Blackbeard Sailing Club members do our share to protect the environmental assets we enjoy. The Club enforces a "CLOSED HEAD POLICY".  In addition to sewage, fuel, oil, batteries, circuit boards from electronic equipment and other hazardous wastes, etc. must be properly disposed of by the member. Sewage pump out is available at neighboring Northwest Creek Marina and the Bridgeton Craven County Convenience Center, Hwy 55 East/Bridgeton will accept most everything else.
