A damsel seeking cool refreshment swings from Dean Forbis’s spinnaker halyard during a hard port turn. This together with Eddy’s Brown Eyed Girl halyard swirls made an interesting way to kill a no-wind postponement.
Doug Phelpss Archangel crossing the finish line of the 33-nautical mile Indian Island to Ocracoke Race with Dave Whitney and Lee Toderick aboard. Doug finished 3rd under reefed main and #1.
Serenity, a two-masted schooner from Virginia, won the Class B Tall Ships race in the ocean off Beaufort. Mark Brennesholtz was aboard.
Sunday morning drifter at this year’s Hancock. Two decent races were run on Saturday.
The three-masted schooner Alliance raced in the Tall Ships race with Mike Foster aboard as Tactician/Navigator.

Hot and hazy in Oriental for the Dragons Breath Regatta

Seconds after takedown and rounding, Brown Eyed Girl is trimmed in and sailing fast in the NCOC.
SJ 21s in the ECB Cup regatta with Margaret Alexander in the lead in Orion, followed by Mike Evans in Joyride, Jeff Thomas in Duct Tape, and Doug Longhini in Kanga. The class ended with a three way tie for first. Talk about tight! BSC won the coveted I

 Racing 2008 (14)
29th Annual Neuse Solo Race - Lee King in Any Time sails the first leg in light air Solo Race in Oriental. The race time limit had to be extended a half hour to get most of the 28 boats finished.
Afterthought and Eddy Parkers Brown Eyed Girl slice to windward just after the start on December 15. Afterthought won as usual, but it was a great sailing day for all.
Blueprint lost the spinnaker sheets through the blocks and flew this pretty flag half way back to windward. Jay Hood still came in fifth in the race.

Dave Whitneys Silent Pursuit sits above its own reflection in the cold, wet, drifting finale to the Winter Series. Dave took first place in the series in the under-200 non-spinnaker class.
December 20 - The bow man on Water Phantom checks the line seconds before the start. The Race Committee called Charlie over early and he had to restart.
Five boats rounded the windward mark very close together in the second race on January 12. All were also trying to get very soggy spinnakers launched and flying in the fairly light air.
